BOURNE – Officials with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation are holding a public meeting next week regarding the Cape Cod Canal Transportation Study, which is looking at the future of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges and travel in the canal region.

The meeting is set for December 1st at 7 p.m. at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. State officials want input from the public and call the session a “working group” meeting.

This is the third public meeting the state has held on the study.

Officials are tasked with improving transportation in the Canal Region, and are looking at the possibility of replacing the aging bridges with modern spans. MassDOT is also exploring how to improve the often congested roads in the canal region.

The Bourne and Sagamore Bridges opened in 1935.
