WEST YARMOUTH – Construction is underway in West Yarmouth on a new assisted living and memory care residence at the Maplewood at Mayflower Place senior living community.

The 75-unit senior living residence will provide private apartments for those who need daily living assistance, along with additional support for those living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia disorders.

The current campus already has 127 independent and assisted living units and a 72-unit skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.

“We’re looking to really take that campus and make it feel like it’s one contiguous parcel that has all the amenities for seniors to age in place,” said Greg Smith, the CEO of Maplewood Senior Living.

The facility will include a lobby, open-kitchen and dining venues, a Bistro, wellness center, spa and salon, libraries and stone fireplaces, along with outdoor gardens and terraces.

Smith believes facilities like these will be important for the Cape with a growing aging population.

“You have people that are really interest in calling the Cape home for the rest of their lives and I think you are going to see a continuation of that over the next 10 to 20 to 30 years,” Smith said.

Smith said he believes behavioral health is another way for Maplewood Senior Living to expand and is at the top of the list for priorities.

“I think there is a disservice to seniors when it comes to geriatric behavioral health and I think there is not a lot of offerings out there,” Smith said. “I think it’s completely underserved.”

The Mill Hill Residence in West Yarmouth is expected to be completed by August of 2017.
