MBL Forum Event to Highlight America’s Famous Pirates

Eric Jay Dolin

WOODS HOLE – America’s most notorious pirates will be the focus of a Marine Biological Laboratory Falmouth Forum on Friday.

Author Eric Jay Dolin will share surprising tales of vicious mutineers, imperial riches, and high seas intrigue in the Golden Age of piracy in the Americas.

The talk, “Black Flags, Blue Waters: The Epic History of America’s Most Notorious Pirates,” will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the MBL Lillie Auditorium in Woods Hole.

Dolin’s latest book is set against a backdrop of the Age of Exploration, which was the “Golden Age” of American piracy. Blackbeard, Captain Kidd and Edward Low were the star seafaring outlaws of the period.

Dolin will illustrate how colonists at first supported these pirates in an early display of solidarity against the crown, but then violently opposed them.

The Falmouth Forum is a free series. For a complete schedule of other events, visit mbl.edu/Falmouth-forum.
