MBTA Appoints New Head of Green Line Extension Project

TRANSITBOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has appointed a former state official known for his work on the Big Dig to temporarily head its Green Line extension efforts.

The Boston Globe reports that Jack Wright will oversee an interim leadership team tasked by the MBTA with redesigning the project to cut costs.

Wright is now employed by engineering consulting firm Weston and Sampson. He previously served as deputy project manager for the Big Dig.

T General Manager Frank DePaola says the transit agency needed someone with experience who could start immediately.

Project officials have come under scrutiny after it was revealed that extending the Green Line could cost up to $3 billion.

DePaola says the project will have a new budget estimate by April 7.
