Meeting to Gather Input on Dennis Independence Pathway Project

DENNIS – The Dennis Council on Aging and Department of Natural Resources will host a public meeting later this month on the Independence Pathway Project.

They are seeking public input on the preliminary design of a physical therapy walkway to be located in the northwest corner of Setucket Road and Route 134.

The Independence Pathway promotes the use of conservation land to support the health and wellbeing of residents who are in rehabilitation after a fall or other injury, and individuals living with mobility challenges and cognitive impairment.

The meeting is June 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dennis Senior Center.

The project is funded through a grant from the Dennis Community Preservation Committee and was approved by voters at a special town meeting in October 2017.

The conceptual design provides an Americans with Disabilities Act compliant pathway where mobility challenged adults can practice walking, improve balance, increase strength and flexibility, become more confident and remain independently mobile longer.

The design also includes a secluded area where people may just want to sit and enjoy the outside.

The walkway will be constructed with environmentally friendly building materials, including wood, flagstone, concrete, and bluestone. A wheel chair accessible ramp will also be incorporated into the design, along with a small parking area and restrooms.
