HYANNIS – The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is ready for today’s snow storm.
The agency has increased its activation level this afternoon to Level II, to support local and state storm response needs.
MEMA spokesman Chris Besse said people should stay off the roadways during the storm, but if they have to travel, make sure to be prepared.
“Just want people to give themselves extra time, make sure that they have got simple emergency supplies in their car, extra blankets and a flashlight just in case there’s a problem or people get stranded for a little while, that they have what they need,” said Besse.
Besse notes that this storm will be milder compared to storms over the past couple of years, but they are still actively watching it.
Still he said that the public should take steps to be safe.
“Make sure people are cleaning snow off the roofs of their car so it’s not injuring other drivers and just give yourself extra time,” said Besse. “Most people in New England know how to drive in the snow, it’s just really the first big storm we’ve seen this year.”
Besse adds that they will be available to provide more staff and bring in more agencies if cities and towns across the state need help.
