YARMOUTH – Men will gather in Yarmouth Thursday to take a pledge not to commit violence against women and children.
Independence House, Yarmouth Police and the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office are collaborating on the 5th annual White Ribbon Day event at Irish Village at 9 a.m.
Guest speakers at the free event include State Representative Tim Whalen, State Senator Julian Cyr, District Attorney Michael O’Keefe, Yarmouth Police Chief Frank Frederickson, Matt Costello, the assistant coach of the Sandwich High School football team and a Mentors in Violence Prevention student from Sandwich High School.
Men of all ages are encouraged to attend the event which creates awareness among the males in our community about the issue of men’s violence against women and gender based violence, along with taking action to be part of the solution.
The White Ribbon Campaign began in 1991 after 14 female students were targeted because of their gender and killed by a gunman at the University of Montreal.
