HYANNIS – Local businesses and providers of goods may have overlooked a potential customer, one that has a consistent need and doesn’t leave Cape Cod during the winter.

The military, which has a strong presence on Cape Cod through Joint Base Cape Cod, and its business potential for local business owners will be discussed at an upcoming forum.

The Joint Base Cape Cod Business Industry Day 2016 will connect participating business owners with the base, and show them how to bid for projects there.

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross said the base regularly needs contractors, airplane part providers and business services like food and chair rentals.

“It’s a huge landmass, but most of us don’t drive through it and don’t see some of the day-to-day activities that go on out there,” Northcross said. “A lot of people think, ‘oh, I’m not big enough to do business with them,’ but that’s really not the case.”

The forum’s co-sponsors include MassDevelopment, the chamber and the Massachusetts Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force. U.S. Representative William Keating and State Representative David Vieira are both members of that task force who will be present during the event.

Industry Day will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on March 28th at Rectrix Aerodrome Center at the Barnstable Municipal Airport.

Northcross said other chambers of commerce from southeastern Massachusetts have been informed of the program and were invited to encourage their small business owners to join.

Registration is necessary by March 22nd. Those interested may visit www.whycapecod.org to register.
