WELLFLEET – State Police Bomb Squad units control detonated military ordinance found this afternoon on Marconi Beach in Wellfleet.
According to Lt. George White of the Wellfleet Fire Department, the device was a 10 millimeter projectile, which was live, and found at the base of the dunes.
The whole beach area was cleared before detonation around 6:30 p.m.
White said that finding military ordinance on the beach is nothing new, and crews have looked for ordinance out there before.
After the device was found, beach goers were kept about 100 yards from the area.
