MLK Celebrations Sunday

HYANNIS – The Cape Cod Chapter of the NAACP, Cape Cod Community College, The Federated Church in Hyannis and the Cape Cod Council of Churches will host a community celebration recognizing the life of Dr. Martin Luther King at the Federated Church on Sunday.

The event is titled “Beloved Community,” and is open to the public.

The keynote speaker at the event will be Dr. John Silvanus Wilson, Jr., he is the former President of Morehouse College. Morehouse College is Dr. King’s alma mater.

Wilson also served as head of President Obama’s Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Tenor David Won will also be performing and he will be followed by readings by students from Hyannis West Elementary.

Scoba Rhodes, a Falmouth resident active in civic and affirmative action causes who recently passed away, will also be recognized.

The ceremony begins at 3 at the Federated Church in Hyannis. It will be preceded by a silent march at 2:30 Sunday afternoon that begins at the Hyannis Village Green.

In Falmouth, No Place for Hate-Falmouth, will host their 12th Annual MLK National Holiday Community Breakfast at the Sea Crest Resort in North Falmouth at 9:30 a.m.
