CHATHAM – With the cost of higher education out of reach for so many, Monomoy Dollars for Scholars is trying to do their part by awarding scholarships to students from Harwich or Chatham in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of college. Many students receive a scholarship from a school towards their freshman year.
Some parents have to mortgage or even sell their home to pay for their child’s college education. Sometimes, when unexpected money-needing issues arrive, it spells the end.
Statistics show that more than half of college students leave to work. Most hope to save some money and return, but never do.
Some who do make it through find themselves saddled with crushing debt.
Dollars for Scholars believes the students are our hope for the future and that they are not asking for a hand out, they’re asking for a hand up.
The organization is always in need of donations which can be sent by mail or made online.
