Monomoy Refuge Comment Period Extended

cape cod genericCHATHAM – Officials with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have granted the Town of Chatham an extension on the comment period for the Monomoy Wildlife Refuge Draft Management Plan.

The comment period is now open until October 10th. Chatham had requested a six-month extension to respond to the proposal.

The town strongly opposes the plan, which calls for the service to take control of 717 acres of town beach land.

Town officials are in the process of organizing their response to the plan. A public hearing on the plan is being held on Tuesday, June 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Chatham High School.

The high school is at 425 Crowell Road in Chatham.

Monomoy Refuge officials said they will be holding an additional open house in late summer 2014 also.
