Motorcycle Ride Raises Over $68K for Military Veterans and Families

SOUTH YARMOUTH – Hundreds of motorcycles and thousands of people turned out for the “Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen” this summer. Supporters lined the 35-mile route to show support for local heroes of the Cape. Now in its ninth year, the event raised a total of $68,921 for local military families and veterans.

The patriotic ride is sponsored by the Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Foundation Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation. The foundation was started to honor and memorialize U.S. Marine Nicholas Xiarhos, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009 while rescuing a fellow marine in combat.

The foundation continues to honor active service members and veterans from Cape Cod, including 15 others who lost their lives serving in the U.S. military since the 9/11 terror attacks back in 2001.

This year’s ride also honored fallen Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon as well as fallen Weymouth Police Sergeant Michael Chesna.
