CENTERVILLE – Pets waiting for their forever homes will soon do so in a brand new facility. Construction of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ adoption center on Route 28 in Centerville is right on schedule.
Mary Sarah Fairweather, Director of the Cape Cod MSPCA, said the countless improvements begin with the new building’s size. “The current building was built in 1969 and is about 3000 square feet, and the one we’ll be moving into is over 11,000,” she said.
Aside from the main adoption area, there will be spaces for animal surgeries, treatments and X-rays, clinical suites, and an education wing. There will also be a screened in “catio” for cats to safely enjoy the outdoors.
Fairweather points out that the MSPCA is also available to those who need some assistance.
“We also have programs for pet owners who are going through a financial crunch and need our help. We’ve got spay and neuter programs, a food pantry, and in addition to that we also have education programs,” she said.
The shelter has more animals than dogs and cats for adoption, including rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and more.
