Mural Rededicated at Harwich Community Center

HARWICH – While a mural that welcomed generations of students was lost when Harwich High School was demolished in 2014, a reproduction of the mural created by the late Milton Welt will be unveiled Saturday morning at the town’s community center.

Welt Preservation Committee Coordinator Ed McManus said at a cost of $173,252, removing and relocating the original mural was too costly, however the high definition photo reproduction will ensure that Welt’s legacy will live on for years to come, adding the piece was an important part of the community.

“It had been there for 50 years, it welcomed the school every morning and all the students who went through the high school so it had a solid place in a lot of Harwichians’ hearts,” McManus said.

Adding to Welt’s legacy, McManus adds the money raised during efforts to move the mural will go to the Monomoy Regional High School Friends of the Arts Program.
