OAK BLUFFS – A coveted low-numbered Martha’s Vineyard specialty license plate is available to Massachusetts residents.
In a departure from the normal low-number plate auctions, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services is hosting a raffle for number 100.
The low-number auction series has raised over $227,000 to benefit MVCS and other island nonprofits through the Driving the Future Fund.
Raffle tickets are being sold one for $25 or five for $100.
Community Services Communications Manager Mary Korba said the organization wanted to try something different.
“With the remaining plates we have left we are trying to get a little creative and also give other individuals the opportunity to potentially win a low-number plate,” Korba said.
The MV specialty plate program began in 2015 as another stream of fundraising for MVCS, which provides education, and health and human services for island residents.
Twenty percent of net proceeds go to other island nonprofits that benefit youth and seniors through the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Driving the Future Fund.
“The auction funds are definitely helpful for what we have going on here at Community Services,” Korba said. “We have an underway capital campaign and also just to keep our programs up and running it is a huge help.”
Korba said the successful plate program continues to grow and the organization is happy to have it as a standard source of revenue.
Raffle ticket sales will run through December 15 and the winner will be announced on December 16.
Tickets can be purchased in Building B on MVCS campus on Edgartown Road in Vineyard Haven during regular business hours. They can also be purchased at Chicken Alley Thrift Store on Lagoon Pond Road in Vineyard Haven.
Tickets will also be sold at various tabling events in November and during Christmas in Edgartown weekend, which is December 12-15.

Over 100 tickets have already been sold.
“It’s just starting so hopefully we’ll keep [the sales] going,” Korba said. “It’s a great opportunity for people who want to give back and have a unique specialty plate that they can have for years to come.”
