Nantucket Aquarium to Host Blue Lobster

NANTUCKET – Have you ever seen a blue lobster? No? Now might be your chance.

The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association Aquarium will be hosting the 1 in 2 million blue crustacean ‘Blooper’ this summer season.

The 7 pound female lobster was donated to the facility by Glidden’s Island Seafood.

It is said that Blooper got her color from an excess amount of shell pigment called ‘crustacyanin’.

The Maria Mitchell Association was founded back in 1902 as a way to preserve the legacy of the Nantucket native astronomer, naturalist, and librarian. The Association operates two observatories, a natural science museum, and an aquarium/research center.
