Nantucket Beach and Pond Closed Due to Elevated Bacteria Counts

KA_Foggy Waters_Ocean_fog_mist_rain_022416_014NANTUCKET – Children’s Beach and Miacomet Pond have been closed by the Nantucket Health Department due to elevated bacteria counts.

Weekly testing is performed on Tuesdays and looked at by a lab in Barnstable.

The Health Department believes that the elevated bacteria counts were the results of recent rainfall that brought trash and bird waste into Nantucket Harbor.

Lab results are expected to be completed by Friday morning and if they come back negative, the Health Department will reopen both locations.

The closure does not affect the movie night event taking place Friday night at Children’s Beach.
