NANTUCKET – Nantucket Cottage Hospital has been accredited by The Joint Commission, an organization that certifies health care organizations for complying with performance standards. The commission reviews more than 21,000 health care organizations around the United States.

Nantucket Hospital was recognized for providing safe and effective patient care.

The Joint Commission conducted and unannounced on-site review last May.

They examined compliance with hospital standards for emergency management, infection prevention and control and medication management, among other areas.

“I want to commend out staff for all the work and preparation that went into earning this certification. The island community can be proud of its medical professionals who made this happen,” said hospital President and CEO Dr. Margot Hartmann.

The Joint Commission’s hospital standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients.

“I want to recognize our team and the staff members throughout the hospital who put so much time and effort into making NCH a safe and effective facility for patient care,” said Jan Ellsworth, RN, the hospital’s Director of Quality Services.
