NANTUCKET – The newest commuter airline to travel to Nantucket gets off the ground today.
Rectrix will start off with limited weekend only service.
The airline is awaiting full commuter certification from the Department of Transportation which could come in the next couple of weeks.
“We go to let the market determine who wants to fly us but we think it’s a wide open market right now,” said Rectrix CEO Paul Foley.
The airline will make two-round trips a week and the first will leave Hyannis today at 2 p.m. and land on Nantucket 20 minutes later before flying back at 3:30 p.m.
An additional round-trip will take place Saturday evening and two round-trips will take place on Sunday.
Once the airline receives full commuter certification, there will be nine round-trip flights a day in their nine passenger King Air 300.
“It’s a beautiful airplane, it’s just been completely re-done with new seats, new cabin interiors, new avionics and we fly with two pilots, a captain and a first officer,” said Foley.
Tickets are available for the flights online at rectrix.com and the cost is $109 each way.
