NANTUCKET – A series of lectures at the Nantucket Historical Association kicks off Tuesday.
The Whales Tales lectures welcome naturalists, environmental activists and scientists focused on the study of whale ecology.
Naturalist and avid photography Eric Savetsky will present “Pelagic Megafauna: Underwater Photography and Videography from Around the World” Tuesday, June 5. He will present and discuss his work capturing whales and other marine life in hopes of inspiring a deeper appreciation of the natural world.
CEO of the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown Rich Delaney will discuss his experience with the Paris Climate Agreement and its importance on the international level, along with what actions are underway on the local level on June 19.
One June 26, Patrick Ramage, the whale program director for the International Fund for Animal Welfare, and Sena Wazer, the president of Cetacean Society International Youth Group, discuss efforts to save whales in a post whaling world.
The final lecture on August 9 features Charles “Stormy” Mayo with the Center for Coastal Studies and focuses on the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale and what is being done to save the species.
All events begin at 6 p.m.
