NANTUCKET – A 68-year-old Nantucket man drowned while scalloping on the island late Sunday afternoon.
According to Nantucket Police, David Masters was raking for scallops on the west end of the island when they received a report of a man in distress off Jackson Point.
Masters had waded into deeper water where police said he got into trouble and called for help.
Other scallopers in the area called 911 and began to help getting him to shore. A nearby boater was able to respond and pull Masters from the water. He was unresponsive at the time.
Emergency crews took him to Nantucket Cottage Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
