Nantucket Named Municipality of Vulnerability Preparedness

 

NANTUCKET -The Town of Nantucket has been designated a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Community by the state after completing the Community Resilience Building Process as recommended by the State’s Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

The town completed a vulnerability assessment and developed an action oriented resiliency plan with $22,000 in Planning Grant money from the state in July of last year. The plan was compiled after a workshop with over 50 stakeholders and input from the community, it was submitted to the state after completion.

As a result, Nantucket is eligible to receive State MVP Action Grants to address priorities outlined in the report.

In addition, the town recently completed an update to its FEMA based Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Hazard Plan lists 55 recommended actions or projects for the town and as of the last review about 20% are underway or complete.
