Nantucket Police Calls in S.W.A.T. for Intoxicated Woman with a Rifle

police carNANTUCKET – The Nantucket Police’s Special Weapons and Tactics team was called to 305 Madaket Road this afternoon after a standoff with an intoxicated woman with a rifle.

The Police were called before 2 p.m. by a resident of the home after she found the suspect intoxicated on the back porch with a gun.

Accoding to police, the reporting resident asked the suspect what she was doing with the gun and the suspect responded, “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of business.”

The Nantucket Police Department, along with the Sheriff’s office and the State Police responded to the scene but were unable to make contact with the woman on multiple attempts.

The area around the residence was cordoned off and police evacuated neighboring homes as a precaution.

The S.W.A.T. team arrived and approached to residence at 2:39 p.m and was able to make contact with the suspect just before 3 p.m.

The incident was resolved when the suspect was taken into custody by S.W.A.T. officers.

She was transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital by the Nantucket Fire Department for evaluation.

Police recovered a Winchester 30/30 lever action rifle, which was unloaded, outside the residence along with 24 rounds of ammunition.

Firearm violation charges are pending upon the completion of an investigation.
