Nantucket Residents Encouraged to Sign Final Steel Beam for New Hospital

NANTUCKET – The final steel beam of the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital will be added on Friday and a ceremony will be held to celebrate the milestone.

The “Topping Off” ceremony is at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Founders Building on Vesper Lane.

Visitors will be able to sign the beam on Wednesday and Thursday. It will be on display in front of the current hospital.

The new two-floor building, which wraps around the current hospital, will be about 106,000 square feet.

The project is funded with private donations with a goal of $120 million, which will fund the construction and a housing component.

Crews broke ground on the construction in July.

A grand opening is planned for late next year.
