Nantucket Transit Weighs Year-Round Bus Service

BB_Nantucket_MainStreet_Summer2015NANTUCKET – Two consecutive forums on Monday and Tuesday will gauge public opinion on year-round bus service.

Nantucket Regional Transit Authority Administrator Paula Leary said consultants will take all input and put together service scenarios: where the routes should be, what will best serve the community on a year-round basis.

“We’re reaching out to the community to see if this service is needed and warranted,” she said. “We already have the equipment.”

Financial resources and the mechanics of running in the winter would need to be considered though, she said.

Leary said she’s received multiple comments from people who are interested in the service, especially those seeking rides to work.

The Monday meeting will take place at the Boys and Girls Club on Sparks Avenue from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held from 11-1 at the same location.
