Nantucket Voters to Decide $84 Million in Capital Projects Today

BB_Nantucket_WelcometoNantucketSign_Summer2015NANTUCKET – Nantucket voters are faced with $84 million in capital project proposals at special town election today.

The big ticket item is an $80 million expansion of the island’s sewer system to Madaket and other mid-island neighborhoods. The proposal was approved at town meeting earlier this year.

Scientists have identified nitrogen from leaching septic tanks as one of the three major contributors to diminishing water quality in Nantucket’s waters.

Question 2 would allocate an additional $3 million to complete construction of the new elementary school.

Question 3 asks for $700,000 to install a new lined cell at the Nantucket landfill.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. at Nantucket High School.
