HYANNIS – This is National Diaper Awareness week, the designation aims to bring attention to the plight of needy families with young children who can’t afford enough diapers.
A Baby Center is an organization in Hyannis that collects and provides diapers to Cape and Islands families who don’t have the resources to purchase them.
Mary Pat Pearson is the Center’s director, she said the need is definitely there.
“Diapers are a basic need, and there is no government support for diapers. So it’s all on the parents, the financial obligation is there to provide these things and for many needy families it just doesn’t happen.”
Pearson says they distribute about 15 thousand diapers to hundreds of families each month.
