National Grid Proposes Winter Bill Increase for Natural Gas

national gridBARNSTABLE – Cape Cod residents may be seeing an increase in natural gas bills this winter.

Utility company National Grid submitted its proposed prices for Massachusetts to the Department of Public Utilities last week, which would raise the average monthly bill for residential customers by $14.

Customers saw a $5 decrease in monthly bills last winter due to a bill credit which has since expired.

If approved, prices would increase in November.

The proposed monthly increase is also due to work done by National Grid to improve system safety and reliability through its leak prone main replacement program.

The utility expects to replace 140 miles of leak prone pipe this year compared to just 126 miles replaced last year.
