National Grid To Host Forum On Mid-Cape Main Replacement Project

national gridSOUTH DENNIS – National Grid company officials will update the public on the planned Mid-Cape gas main replacement project at a community forum in South Dennis tomorrow.

The event runs from 6-8 PM Thursday at the Wixon School. Residents will have a chance to speak with National Grid employees in person and have their questions answered.

Company officials had to issue a moratorium on new gas hookups for the Mid and Lower-Cape after problems were discovered with the current line. National Grid lowered pressure in the main after it was discovered it could not handle the 200 pounds per inch it was previously carrying.

Plans call for 18 miles of gas main to be replaced from Yarmouth to Harwich.

“We’re going through the permitting process, the design process as we speak and we’re doing it in an accelerated way,” said National Grid spokesman Jake Navarro. “It looks like right now we’ll start construction in early 2017 and be done in the early 2019 frame.”
