National Guard Planning Second Prescribed Burn on Camp Edwards

BOURNE – Another prescribed burn is planned for Thursday, weather permitting, at Joint Base Cape Cod.

The Massachusetts National Guard’s Natural Resources Program, along with partner agencies and organizations, will conduct the burn on Camp Edwards.

The primary objective is conservation management and restoration of the pitch pine-scrub oak and dependent flora and fauna.

Officials said the operation will also provide for wildfire hazard reduction, firefighter training, and training lands improvement.

Camp Edwards is home to some 37 state listed species of plants and animals.

The fire management program is used to protect public safety and vital natural resources, improve training lands and gain increased prescribed fire training.
