EASTHAM – Visitors to the Cape Cod National Seashore next summer will be able to enjoy a refurbished Salt Pond Visitor Center amphitheater.
The structure, which was built in the 1960s, is sorely in need of repairs, according to National Seashore Superintendent George Price.
“The water fountains were in disrepair. The benches are pretty hard. The facility has seen its day,” Price said. “And there’s been so much root damage that it’s a very uneven walking surface.”
Renovation work is expected to be completed sometime next spring.
Price said the goal of the project is to improve the facility’s range of use.
“We’re really trying to make it very attractive so that we can hold different functions there,” Price said. “Everything from small and intimate group programs to large scale type groups.”
According to Price, the amphitheater is not compliant with current Americans with Disabilities Act rules and regulations.
