EASTHAM – As part of the 100-year anniversary of the National Park Service, an upcoming program at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham will explore how Cape Cod has been transformed over the past century.
The program entitled “Then and Now: The Amazing Transformation of Cape Cod 1916-2016” will run on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 p.m., and be a visual journey through the past century, looking at what remains the same, what has changed, and what has been lost.
While erosion is perhaps the best-known result of the shifting landscape during the past century, vegetation growth has also had a major impact on the Cape.
“A century ago like much of New England, Cape Cod was really a very open landscape and you could see on the Outer Cape from ocean to bay from many vantage points, which of course you can’t do today,” program co-host and historian Bill Burke said.
The program is part of the weekly “Tuesday Nights at Salt Pond” series, is free of charge, and held in the Visitor Center Auditorium. The Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at the intersection of Route 6 and Nauset Road in Eastham.
