National Seashore to Host Weather Spotter Training Class

EASTHAM – The Cape Cod National Seashore will host a severe weather spotter training session next weekend in Eastham.

The National Weather Service’s SKYWARN program includes a presentation on the development of thunderstorms, the criteria for “severe” storms, and the cloud features associated with them.

It will also cover winter storms and proper snow measurement, reporting coastal, river, stream and urban flooding, and taking rain measurements.

Attendees will also learn how to report information to the National Weather Service and become certified weather spotters if over the age of 16.

Amateur radio operators, emergency managers, police, fire and other first responders are encouraged to attend.

The program is Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Salt Pond Visitor Center.

Pre-registration is required for individuals seeking certification. Attendees who only wish to learn do not need to pre-register.
