Shark Sightings Close Nauset, Head of the Meadow Beaches

ORLEANS – Shark sightings closed multiple beaches to swimming Wednesday on the Outer Cape.

Nauset Public Beach in Orleans has been closed to swimming twice today due to the presence of great white sharks.

According to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity app, the town confirmed reports of a predation about 100 yards from shore around 9:45 a.m. and the beach was closed for an hour.

There was another confirmed sighting about 50 yards off the beach just before noon.

The water was closed for another hour and will reopen to swimming unless there are more sightings.

Head of the Meadow Beach in Truro was also closed to swimming this afternoon sometime after 2 p.m.

A lifeguard confirmed the sighting as the shark spotted south of Head of The Meadow Beach and traveling north. The shark was about 150 yards out.

The beach was closed to swimming for one hour.
