Nauset Beach Oversand Trails Could Fully Open by Monday

ORLEANS – The oversand trails at Nauset Beach may be fully open to vehicles next week without restrictions.

A notice from the Orleans Natural Resources Department said access remains limited under the Statewide Habitat Conservation Plan.

That means access on and off the beach is only allowed at certain times of the day and with an escort walking in front of the vehicle through areas where nesting shorebirds are nearby.

The town expects all restrictions to be removed no later than Monday.

Dogs are only allowed outside of the vehicle in areas that are open for oversand vehicle parking.

Nesting piping plovers for the closure and create limited vehicle access for much of the summer each year on Cape Cod beaches from Provincetown to Sandwich.
