Nauset Light Bathhouse to Close Friday

KA_Eastham_Nauset Light Stair Damage_Below_Beach Level_Sun_Coast Guard Beach_021916_009EASTHAM – The bathhouse at Nauset Light Beach in Eastham will be closing for good Friday.

The Cape Cod National Seashore will disassemble the facility later this fall.

The bathhouse must be taken down as the septic tank is within 10 feet of the coastal bluff, which has seen increased erosion over recent winters.

Stair access to the beach will stay open until work begins to tear down the bathhouse.

The National Seashore is looking into alternatives to the current wooden stairs to access the beach as erosion has destroyed them every year for the last several winters.

Plans are also being discussed for a temporary bathhouse until project funding is made available for a long-term replacement.

Sections of the parking lot will also be removed when the bluff is undercut by erosion and new parking configurations and circulation patterns will need to be established.

Once bathhouse deconstruction begins and getting on the beach at Nauset Light will no longer be available, ocean access will be available from the other five Seashore beaches.
