Nauset Sea Scout 72, Explorer Club 72 to Host Open House

ORLEANS – The Nauset Sea Scout Ship 72 and Nauset Explorer Club 72 are planning an open house to introduce high school and middle school youth, parents and the public to the year-round opportunities these groups offer.

Members of these two groups learn hands-on boating and water safety skills and build life skills, while exploring local marine resources and maritime career opportunities.

Several of the organization’s vessels used by youth will be on display at the open house, including a historic 26-foot Race Point surf rescue pulling boat and a 26-foot O’Day sloop. Scouts and leaders will provide hands-on activities such as navigating, knot tying, and oar handling during the event.

In addition to learning skills in leadership, seamanship, and fellowship, Scouts and Explorers participate in various activities and field trips that may include tall ship sailing, boat building, marine rescue and survival, marine science and technology, and much more.

A nautical yard sale and several sailboats for sale will also be on display.

The Open House will be held at the clubhouse, located at 46 Beach Road in Orleans, on Saturday June 8 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
