Nauset Spit Dispute Between Orleans, Eastham Continues

Beach TracksORLEANS – The ongoing dispute between Eastham and Orleans over off road vehicle use on Nauset Spit has still not come to a conclusion.

Last night Orleans selectmen voted to comply with Eastham’s cease and desist order prohibiting ORV traffic on what Eastham says is its portion of the Spit.

Orleans Selectmen member John Hodgson says he’s confident the dispute will be resolved.

“I certainly hope so, we have a lot of things we have to do together. There are a lot of things we do together now, whether it’s joint policing, joint fire, Tri Town is a three town district including Eastham,” he said. “And Eastham is putting in a fresh water system, they are going to need to connect to a town with fresh water, we’re the closest.”

The two town’s boards of selectmen are meeting Wednesday, September 10 to discuss the issue.
