Nero’s Bill Reported Favorably Out of Committee

BOSTON – Nero’s Bill has been reported favorably out of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.

The legislation, sponsored by Barnstable State Representative Will Crocker, will ensure that K9 officers will receive immediate emergency treatment if they suffer life-threatening injuries while on duty.

“I appreciate that the committee recognized how critical this bill is,” said Crocker. “This is a positive next step towards making an important piece of legislation law. K9 Officers are just as much a part of the police force as their human counterparts.”

Nero’s Bill was filed in response to the line of duty death of Yarmouth K9 Sergeant Sean Gannon and the injury of his K9 partner Nero in April 2018.

The bill, which is titled “An Act Providing for the Care and Transportation of Police Dogs Injured in the Line of Duty”, now awaits further committee assignment.
