Network Developing TV Show About Cape’s Heroin Epidemic

PROVINCETOWN – A new TV show about the heroin crisis on Cape Cod is currently in development, according to reports out of Hollywood.

Deadline.com reports the premium network Starz is working on a new series called “P-Town,” which depicts a Provincetown-based lesbian federal fisheries agent who comes across a body in Cape Cod Bay and finds herself in the middle of the region’s opioid crisis.

The project is reportedly being headed up by well-known TV and film producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been behind series such as CSI, Cold Case, and Without a Trace. For the big screen, Bruckheimer has produced films like Armageddon, Top Gun, and the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

The series will be written and produced by Cambridge-native Rebecca Cutter, a former writer-producer for the TV series Gotham.

There is no word yet on who will star in the series, or when it will debut.

The new show will not be the first time Cape Cod’s opioid epidemic has been featured on national television. In 2015, HBO released a documentary called “Heroin: Cape Cod, USA,” which followed the lives of eight of drug-addicts on the Cape.
