BARNSTABLE – The new Barnstable Public Schools Superintendent says she can’t wait to get started in her new position.

Meg Mayo-Brown, who is currently serving as the Fall River Public Schools Superintendent, finalized her four year contract with the Barnstable School Committee on Wednesday, with an annual salary of $200,000.

She replaces Mary Czajkowski, who left the position in July to take the top job for the Lexington School District.

Mayo-Brown said that she will get started on her position soon, despite her start date being July 1.

“I plan on being visible to the extent that I can, and engaged for the period of time from January to July,” said Mayo-Brown.

Mayo-Brown added that she will be meeting with interim superintendent William Butler during the holiday break to discuss and develop a transition plan.

She has spent the last seven years as superintendent for the Fall River District and five years before that as the Chief Academic Officer.

Mayo-Brown has four sons with one graduating high school this year and another still in high school.

She said she will be entering her son into Barnstable High School for the fall.

Mayo-Brown said she sees the role of superintendent as someone who is not only engaged in the schools, but the town and community.

“I think that’s the role of the superintendent is not just to lead the educational component of a town, but also to be apart of the community,” said Mayo-Brown.
