New Beach Monitors Approved by Dennis Town Meeting Voters

DENNIS – Beaches in Dennis will have a few more monitors on hand this summer thanks to action taken by town meeting voters Tuesday night.

Three more staff members will be added with the money.

Attempts to increase that number to six and down to zero were both rejected before a compromise was reached.

The town formed a new committee last year to investigate beach activity in Dennis after several teens were seen having sex in the water at Mayflower Beach last July 4th.

In other action, Dennis residents approved money for a new bathhouse at Mayflower Beach and reserve funding for firefighters.

The town operating budget and regional school district budget were approved, as was money for Sesuit Harbor dredging.

Cleon Turner was honored for his years of public service as a selectman, state representative and Dennis police officer
