BOURNE – With a contractor in place, construction of the new Bourne Police facility is expected to begin sometime this month.

West Roxbury contractor M. O’Connor Contracting will build the new police station at a cost of nearly $18 million.

“Now we’re in the process of refining the contracts and getting that signed so hopefully there will be shovels in the ground at some point in the middle of August,” said Bourne Police Chief Dennis Woodside.

A new police station has been discussed for a number of years and outdated technology, flooding, asbestos, security concerns are just some of the issues with the current facility.

The new police station will have the latest technology, proper locker room, training and office spaces and will be welcomed by every member of the department.

“It’s going to be quite a shock for us because we’re all so used to working in the current building which doesn’t have these facilities,” Chief Woodside said.

Construction the new station located near the old National Guard Armory is expected to last for 14-16 months.
