New Brewster Town Administrator to Start in April

BREWSTER – The new town administrator in Brewster will take over the position in about two months.

Peter Lombardi, who is the current Town Administrator in Wenham, was selected unanimously by the Select Board earlier this month. The Select Board also approved his contract last week.

Lombardi is expected to begin working for the town on April 22.

He says he looks forward to joining the community.

“Once I get down there I look forward to working with staff, the select board and other boards and committees to identify what’s priority for them based on all the work they have been doing,” Lombardi said.

Lombardi said he was drawn to the beautiful coastal community and its progressive organization.

“It was a community that had been on the radar of my family for some amount of time and we had an interest in moving down that way,” he said. “The stars aligned in that way.”

Lombardi said he had experience in working in coastal communities that have similar challenges to Brewster.

Before moving to Wenham, Lombardi was the director of policy and administration in the Newburyport Mayor’s office. He was also grants administrator for the town of Winthrop.

“I actually grew up in Manchester-by-the-Sea and lived in Marblehead for a long time, so I have a fair amount of experience with that,” he said. “Newburyport in particular is obviously very reliant on the tourism economy and so that certainly has a lot in common with what Brewster has as well.”

Lombardi said he will also continue the work being down to improve the town’s financial condition, along with the town’s vision plan, coastal management plan and affordable housing strategies.

“There will be no shortage of projects and initiatives to work on,” Lombardi said.

He also plans on living in Brewster with his family.

“That’s another really important point for us,” he said. “It’s as much about the opportunity on a professional level as on a personal level, in terms of raising a family in the community.”

Lombardi was chosen over the other finalist, Daniel Hoort, the Wellfleet town administrator.

During public interviews with both finalists Select Board members were impressed with Lombardi’s leadership philosophy.

The board also praised his work in two different communities to help present the budget in a transparent manner. Lombardi received awards for his budget presentations.
