New Chamber Orchestra Making Its Harwich Port Debut In April

HARWICH PORT – The Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra, the region’s newest professional orchestra, has announced its debut concert.  On Sunday April 15th, it will perform “Here at the Edge of the Sea

In recognition of National Poetry Month, the performance will feature a collaboration with the Cape Cod Writers Center.  The program takes its name from a piece by Cape poet Judith Askew which has been set to original music by noted Boston composer-conductor Francis Snyder. The event will also display poetry by Monomoy Regional High School students.

Conductor Matthew Scinto, who recently moved to the Cape, is excited about the show.

“Our first program is exactly what I envisioned when I set out to create this chamber orchestra.  Beautiful music from composers old and new, integrating the Cape’s already rich cultural sphere, resulting in a celebration of poetry, creativity and art,” he said.

The Orchestra’s aim is to create unique concert experiences which feature exciting, enriching and memorable orchestral music from both living composers, and the classical canon.

“We are so fortunate to have music in our world – it is the one constant despite generation after generation of change and still serves an important purpose to us today,” Scinto said.

The concert will take place at the Pilgrim Congregational Church on Route 28 in Harwich Port, starting at three.  Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door and $15 for students ages 12 through college.  Children under 12 will be admitted for free.
