New Commander Taking Charge of Local Coast Guard

lighthouse10FALMOUTH – Coast Guard Sector Southeast New England, which encompasses Southeastern Mass and Rhode Island, will be under new leadership beginning Friday.

A change of command ceremony will be held at Nobska Point Lighthouse in Falmouth at 10 a.m.

Captain Richard Schultz will take over responsibilities from Captain John Kondratowicz, who has served as sector commander since 2013 and is retiring after 36 years of service.

Schultz previously served as the sector’s deputy commander. He was also a Coast Guard liaison officer at the Navy Welfare Development Command in Norfolk, Virginia and the commanding officer of the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Strike Team.

Sector Southeast New England covers more than 3,000 square miles of offshore waters and 1,200 miles of coastline with more than 500 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary personnel using four cutters and 32 boats.
