New Committee Forming to Rid Cape Cod of Litter

keep-cape-cod-beautiful-logoHYANNIS – A committee is being formed to address the litter problem across Cape Cod.

The Keep Cape Cod Beautiful committee will be working in conjunction with the Keep Massachusetts Beautiful organization.

The committee will be holding its first meeting Saturday at the Federated Church in Hyannis from 2 to 4 p.m.

Organizer Rick Walters says it’s mindboggling that there is a litter issue on the Cape.

“It’s one of the most beautiful places on the planet,” said Walters. “It relies so heavily on tourism and to not have a pristine environment just amazes me. I think we need to do something about it.”

The goal of the committee is to organize a Great Massachusetts Clean-up event in each Cape town, create public awareness and campaign to pick up the highways and neighborhoods.

“You come over either bridge and as you are traveling down the main arteries it is disgusting,” he said.

Residents concerned with the litter problem are encouraged to attend the meeting. Anyone planning to attend should register at www.keepcapecodbeautiful.org.
