HARWICH- The new proposed East Harwich Fire station building has been met with full backing by the town’s planning board, and is now moving to town meeting in May for complete approval.
The new $6,050,000 station would be composed of a 9,500 square foot facility that would sit on the current sub-stations 3.2 acre lot on 149 MA- Route 137.
“We tried to… make the fire station fit into the environment,” said architect Todd Costa.
The building will be composed of a stone base and a large apparatus side to fit vehicles and equipment.
“We plan to have special washer and dryers for the turnout gear… we have a system now at the main station, but we plan to add one at station 2,” said Fire Chief Norman Clarke.
There will also be a place on site for apparatus to be filled with fuel, making it easier to be prepared to head out on service calls.
Officials say that the existing sub-station will remain open during construction in order to not hinder station productivity and response times during construction.
