New Fishermen’s Alliance on the Vineyard

fishing boatWEST TISBURY – The new Martha’s Vineyard Fishermen’s Preservation Trust held a meeting on the Island this week and wants to set the record straight over the group’s predecessor, the Dukes County Fishermen’s Association.

Concerns were raised after the Association changed course on the Cape Wind project and came out in support of the project after a settlement with Cape Wind for over a million dollars.

John Keene is President of the new Trust and says he wants to clear the air.

“Part of the meeting was letting people know that we are not part of that group and we are trying to move away from that time. And we are trying to keep everything super open. So some of the anxiety that came out of that due to the secrecy because of a gag order that was signed we are trying very hard to have the process as open as possible.”

Keene says the new group’s Board is made up of fishermen, scientists and members of the business community.
